“The Infallable Word from God”
“That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” Hebrews 6:18-19
The scriptures are trustworthy and they are dependable for our support. There is no other resource for the Christian, which can offer the power, which is in God’s Word. John Gill has so adequately stated: “A sure, certain, and infallible rule to go by, with respect to things both to be believed and done: a rule they are, #Ga 6:16. And since they are of divine authority, and are perfect and plain, they are a sure rule, and to be depended on;”[1]
The scriptures are our infallible guide in what to believe and how to live. The scriptures speak on all matters clear and plain. Why should man seek the obscure when he can have clear and plain truths?
“To prove the perspicuity of the scriptures; for since they are a rule of faith and practice, they should be clear and plain, as they are: not that they are equally clear and plain; some parts are dark and obscure.”[2]
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
(1Pe 1:23 KJV)
Clark suggests that this refers to the written Word of God as opposed to the living Word of God, Jesus Christ. This verse says that the Word of God is incorruptible as in inerrant. Not suseptible to error of anykind. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (2Ti 3:16 KJV)” The Bible is God breathed in its origional manuscripts and is therefore inerrant in the origional manuscripts. Translations can contain mistakes, but the origional manuscript is without error.
Old Testament Scripture came as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit on the authors. “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2Pe 1:21 KJV)” Since they were moved by the Holy Spirit, then the words they spoke must have been the Word of God. The same was true of the New Testament authors as was seen in 2 Timothy 3:16, when comparred to what Peter has to say about what Paul wrote:
“And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. (2Pe 3:15-16 KJV)”
